Did you steal my tarts ? Fro-Yo Wars

All this stories when something "leaked" ^..^  /officialy/ :).
Just to get some PR and keep the brand name under the bright spot light?

The Queen of Hearts
She made some tarts,
All on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts
He stole those tarts,
And took them clean away.
The King of Hearts
Called for the tarts,
And beat the knave full sore;
The Knave of Hearts
Brought back the tarts,
And vowed he'd steal no more.

The Droid X has been mired in controversy since its launch. Motorola used a bootloader and chip combination that made it difficult for hackers to mod the phone and install custom versions of Android. The bootloader is the software component that loads the operating system in a gadget. Despite that, Android developers have been able to root the device.

For now, intrepid Droid X users have no choice but to wait for the official Froyo update to the Droid X, which is scheduled for early September.

That's right, just weeks after it;s release, the Motorola Droid 2 has been rooted! The geniuses over at XDA Developers have done it again with this latest hack. At first glance, the process looks fairly simple, but it's not one click root, that's for sure. So, if you're unsure about rooting, I would wait until an easier method is released. This one isn't for the faint of heart, so be cautious.
As of now, there have been no ROM releases or recovery images, but we'll keep you posted on any new developments.

Modern Living: Let Them Eat Yogurt

"Wall Street is frozen-yogurt city now," says a beaming Richard Egan, executive vice president of Colombo yogurt. Indeed, any fair lunchtime brings out crowds of bankers and stockbrokers strolling about and licking 500 and 750 curl-topped frozen-yogurt cones. In midtown Manhattan, long queues snake around corners to the tiny frozen-yogurt parlors that seem to have sprung up everywhere.
Frozen yogurt is actually just the latest ferment in the general yogurt boom. Exalted in ancient writings as the food of the gods, yogurt has become popular in the U.S. only in the past decade. In 1975 Americans ate 200,000 tons of it, nearly $300 million worth—up from $25 million in 1967.
Food faddists credit yogurt with nearly universal virtues. They say it prolongs life and improves the work of the digestive tract. Moreover, skim-milk yogurt is a good low-calorie source of protein, calcium and phosphorus.
Food Critic Gael Greene cautions that it cannot be compared with foie gras, or homemade butter-pecan ice cream. But she says that she breakfasts on yogurt "every disciplined morning," adding, "yogurt is definitely a best friend —but not a lover."

And the moral of the story is? Let Them Eat Yogurt! 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 etc! :)

The Duchess: You're thinking about something, my dear, and that makes you forget to talk. I can't tell you just now what the moral of that is, but I shall remember it in a bit.
Alice: Perhaps it hasn't one.
The Duchess: Tut, tut, child! Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab from Digitaltimes S. Korea

http://www.nebtooknews.com We grabbed this video off of a Korean outfit http://www.dt.co.kr/contents.html?art... The 7" inch tablet is running Android 2.2, on a 1GHz processor (ARM8) which is the same processor on the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, a 800 x 480 resolution on it's 7-inch display, a 3.2MP rear webcam, a front facing webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Flash and GPS are all confirmed. Again, like said smartphone, they've got a Swype keyboard on board.

History
Frozen yogurt was introduced in New England in the 1970s as a soft serve dessert by H. P. Hood under the name Frogurt. In 1978, Brigham's, a Boston based ice cream, candy and sandwich chain developed and introduced the first packaged frozen yogurt under the name Humphreez Yogart. It was originally intended as a healthier alternative to ice cream, but consumers complained about the tart taste. Manufacturers began production of a recipe that tasted sweeter, and frozen yogurt took off in the 1980s, reaching sales of $25 million in 1986. In the early 1990s, frozen yogurt was 10% of the dessert market.

Games ?

something like this:
Ryo Ichinose have written Dodge Ball for Android, a fun game where you have to move a spaceship and avoiding falling balls from the sky. Code source and video demo are available.

Will it play Doom? Who cares IT PLAYS PAC MAN!!!

Music ?

That openness will be important, because the T-Mobile G1 has some obvious holes in its software which developers are likely to fill. For example, the music player looks bare-bones compared to the excellent one on the iPhone. But looking beyond the features of the phone itself, there are two rather more interesting points to note about the G1 Android smartphone

HTC + Android= Handroid (+ SMS+Ad=> G$)

The mobile phone High Tech Computer (HTC) has been developing to run on the Android software from Google will be called "Dream," and it will have a large touchscreen and full QWERTY keypad, a person close to the situation said Thursday.

HTC may become the first handset maker in the world to put out a mobile phone developed around Android, but it faces stiff competition from Samsung, a separate source said. Samsung has stepped up its effort to put out a Google phone, the person said.
HTC's Google handset is just over 5 inches long and 3 inches wide, with a keypad underneath the screen that either slides out or swivels out. The aim of the keypad is for easy e-mail, note-taking, and writing Web addresses. Internet navigational controls are situated below the screen on the handset. The handset will likely hit the market near the end of this year, the person said.

The company officially remained mum on the handset. "We cannot comment on this product," said Maggie Cheng, an HTC representative.

Last November, HTC became the first company to admit to developing a mobile phone based on Android, although Samsung, Motorola, and other handset developers are part of the group dedicated to furthering the software, the Open Handset Alliance.

Android, an open source software platform that includes an OS, is designed to take advantage of Internet services for mobility. The software could become a potent new rival to Windows Mobile and other handset operating systems. At the launch ceremony, Google announced that over 30 companies had joined the Open Handset Alliance.

Android™ will deliver a complete set of software for mobile devices: an operating system, middleware and key mobile applications. An early look at the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available.

Mobile messaging to grow to US$212 billion by 2013, says ABI Research

SMS is taking off in the Americas, mobile email continues its strong growth in developed regions, subscriber growth is driving messaging adoption in Asia-Pacific, and social networking is lifting the messaging boat across nearly all regions, according to research firm ABI Research. The combination of these factors is expected to grow revenues from mobile messaging to US$212 billion by 2013, according to the firm.

Messaging services growth will have different regional specific drivers. Despite the differences, however, the common growth denominator is that messaging services provide a timely, cost-effective, customer-specific communication and information capability. Principal analyst Dan Shey says, "You will not find many customers worldwide who don't find messaging cost-effective and valuable for communications and delivery of information. The range of capabilities, services and pricing options can be fit to the economic and social differences of each region, and the result quite simply is steady growth over the next five years."

But the benefits driving messaging growth go beyond its obvious economic, social and convenience advantages relative to voice calling. The next stage of messaging growth will be strongly influenced by new input and access capabilities and integration across mobile and fixed-line platforms. According to Shey, "Innovation in messaging input, including touch screens, voice-to-text, and advanced keyboard designs, makes initiating a mobile message very easy. By combining input options with greater ease of communicating across mobile and fixed platforms regardless of messaging service, messaging providers serve customers' needs very well in both the consumer and business domains."

And there is a third stage of growth for mobile messaging, according to Shey, "Some very creative companies are finding unique ways to incorporate advertising in mobile messaging. If done right, advertising will completely change the mobile messaging market."

NTT DoCoMo Android-based cell phone?

According to InfoWorld, Japan's biggest mobile telecom carrier gave its strongest support yet to Google's Android platform on Thursday when it said it is considering a cell phone based on the technology.

"We are starting discussions to offer handsets that will have the Android operating system," said Takeshi Natsuno, managing director of the multimedia services department at NTT DoCoMo.

The talks include getting support for I-mode, DoCoMo's hit mobile Internet service, on the Android platform. Nearly 48 million of DoCoMo's 53 million customers subscribe to I-mode, so having it on Android will be key to the Google platform's success in Japan.

Android is a Linux-based platform for cell phones that will combine open source components and include an operating system, a middleware stack, a customizable user interface, and applications.

NTT DoCoMo is one of the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance, the group developing Android. Until Thursday, it hadn't disclosed what it hoped to gain from its participation in the group, which comprises about 40 companies, including some of the biggest names in the cell phone industry.

"When I look at the prototype, the Android-based handset works really well even on some of the cheaper handset designs," said Natsuno.

NTT DoCoMo and Google to Partner in Mobile Internet Services

Tokyo, January 24, 2008 - NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (Headquartered in Tokyo; President & CEO Masao Nakamura) and Google Inc. (Headquartered in California; Chairman & CEO; Eric Schmidt) today jointly announced that they formed a partnership that includes providing search services, search-related advertisement and potential applications to i-mode™ users.

The two companies will also collaborate to enhance the user-friendliness of i-mode services, by making various Google services easier to access through i-mode handsets. The default pre-loading of Google Maps™ application into upcoming DoCoMo i-mode handsets is one of the initial initiatives being discussed.

A summary of the agreement items follows.

1. Purpose of this partnership:
Google, one of the largest search engines in the world, is aiming to fulfill the mission of "organizing the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." i-mode, the pioneering mobile Internet service provided by DoCoMo, boasts nearly 48 million mobile Internet users. By connecting i-mode with various services provided by Google, the parties together intend to increase accessibility, user-friendliness and further develop the usefulness of mobile Internet services in the Japanese market.

2. Outline of this partnership:
(1) Extension of search services on i-mode
In addition to the existing i-mode menu site search service, through the partnership with Google, i-mode users will be served Google search results for mobile and PC web sites via the i-mode portal search-box. Launch of the expanded search services is scheduled in spring 2008. The new search-box will be placed on the top-page of the i-mode portal, increasing the immediate accessibility and convenience of searches on i-mode.

(2) Search-related advertisements
Simultaneously with the launch of the new search services in spring 2008, key-word based advertisements using Google's ad platform AdWords™ will also be provided on the search-result pages in conjunction with the search results.

(3) More Google services for i-mode handsets
As a first initiative beyond searches, Google Maps for Mobile is under discussion to become a standard pre-installed application on upcoming i-mode handsets to be launched in the near future. The parties are also planning to collaborate around other services and search-related functions. The parties intend to make it easier for i-mode users to use Google services such as Gmail™, YouTube™ and Picasa™ by giving users more seamless and immediate access over the mobile phone. Furthermore, in all upcoming DoCoMo full-browser capable handsets, Google will be set to appear as the default start-page on the full-browser.

(4) Other possible mobile marketing services
Google, in conjunction with DoCoMo and its subsidiaries, will also further study the possibility of new mobile marketing services directed towards i-mode users.

(5) Possible deployment of Android™ platform
DoCoMo and Google will also continue to study the possibility of bringing Android based handsets to the Japanese market. Android, a revolutionary platform for mobile phones, was announced by the Open Handset Alliance™ (OHA) last fall, in which Google was the key initiator of the Android project.

i-mode Technology

i-mode is built on a firm foundation of advanced technology. The use of packet transmissions offers continuous access, while the use of a subset of HTML makes content creation easy and provides simple conversion of existing websites.

Compatibility

i-mode websites are created with iHTML, a subset of standard HTML. Since converting existing HTML websites to i-mode format requires only minor changes to the HTML, conversion is fast and easy, and the number of i-mode sites is high and increasing rapidly.

figure:Introduction of Conversion Software

Efficiency

NTT DoCoMo's packet-switched technology was specifically designed to provide users with "always-on" network access, eliminating the need to log on or off. In turn, i-mode − the service developed for this packet-switched technology − provides the most efficient wireless access possible as no dedicated radio channel is required. The result is lower costs for customers as they are billed according to volume of data sent and received, rather than by time spent connected.

Versatility

i-mode offers one more significant benefit: mobile voice and data service in a single convenient package. This voice/data flexibility is unprecedented: people can download information about events, restaurants, etc., and then make reservations, or place calls to numbers searched in the i-mode directory.

Open Standards

At all phases of the development of i-mode, NTT DoCoMo pursued a policy of open technology exchange and joint large system tests at our R&D center with the world's leading research organizations, mobile communications operators and equipment manufacturers. In addition, i-mode supports Java-based applications whose importance continues to increase as the move to wireless devices accelerates globally.

Linux Phone Standards (LiPS) vs Open Handset Alliance™ Android Platform

Linux Phone Standards (LiPS) Forum Completes Release of 1.0 Specifications
Targets interoperability & marketability of Linux-based mobile phones through shared open standards and implementations

SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, FRANCE, December 10, 2007—The Linux Phone Standards (LiPS) Forum today announced completion of the LiPS Release 1.0 specifications, fulfilling the commitment announced in June of this year. With this release, LiPS enables mobile industry players to achieve basic interoperability for applications and services deployed on Linux-based phones, benefiting Linux-based software stack suppliers, mobile device OEMs and regional and global telecom operators. These specifications include the LiPS Reference Model, Telephony, Messaging, Calendaring and Scheduling, Presence, User Interface Services, Address Book and Voice Call Enablers APIs.

In contrast to recent announcements from other bodies promoting Linux-based mobile software, LiPS output targets interoperability through real open standards and specifications, not de facto acceptance of single platform implementation. The completed open specifications are publicly available on the LiPS website.

From Open Standards to Standards-based Phones

The principal advantage to real open standards comes from choice of implementation. As with all formal standards, the challenge lies in moving from "paper standards" to creating code and actual devices.
